I wrote a program today to calculate pi, or atleast approximate it. In case you don't already know, pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its radius.

I worked under the logic that a circle is nothing more than a infinately sided regular polygon (which is equiangular and equilateral). So i figured if i could calculate the ratio of the polygon's perimeter to half of its width (radius if you will) as the number of sides on the polygon approached infinity. The more sides that the polygon has, the closer to pi it would get. Here are some runs of the program that i did with larger and larger numbers:

as you can see, it gets closer and closer to pi as the number of sides gets larger and larger. It would be impossible to calculate pi exactly though, as it is an irrational number, and there is no way to handle infinitely large numbers, but you could get pretty close.

closing doors is something of an inexact science.

When i close a door in my house, i usually give it a gentle push to close it. Not the old grab-the-door-knob-and-move-the-door-into-the-closed-position technique. I don't slam it shut though, i push with just enough force so that it closes without making a giant "bang".

In the winter, the windows in my house are always closed. and when i close the door, i must not only push with enough force to close the door, i must also compensate for the slight vacuum that is created when the door swings.

Now, in the summer, i don't have to use as much force to close the door. Because the windows are usually open, the vacuum created when the door swings is negligable. The open windows allow the air to flow into and out of the room much faster than if they were closed.

Since the warm season has just recently begun, i must adjust my "door closing force". Since it was winter not too long ago, my mind is used to have to compensate for the vacuum; but since there is no vacuum, whenever i close the door it always slams because my mind hasn't switched over the "summer door-closing" mode yet.

that was some pretty random pointless stuff that i just wrote.

The other night, i was walking home from work, and i saw (well, i didn't really see it happen, but i noticed it) car that had run over some kind of small animal. Then, the little creature, who had somehow survived, continued to cross the road. Then it stopped in the middle of the other lane and just sat there. I think that's when it died. I sort of felt sorry for the little thing.

Then as i continued on my journey home, i thought about how intelligent those rodents must be. Or more like how unintelligent they are. I mean, if you see a giant two ton piece of rolling metal that is hundreds of times larger than you barreling straight towards you, you just don't stand there. That's common sense, or maybe more like 'instinct'.

These rodents have had a hundred years to adapt and adjust to these automobiles. You think they would learn. I mean all they have to do is 'stop. look left, right, and left again' whenever they get to a road. It's not rocket science.

the night sky is awsome.

one day, i'd like to travel out to the middle of nowhere, and just look at the sky. I remember when i was younger, when we went camping we could see all the stars and it was really neat. Here in the city, there are too many lights to see a whole lot of stars. Maybe when i go on my 'star gazing adventure' i'll buy a big telescope, so that i can see all the aliens. =P

and another day, before i die, i'd like to see a solar eclipse. Preferrably a total eclipse of the sun. But i'd have to travel south before i can see any of those. I've already witnessed a total lunar eclipse. It was very slow (and cold too), and there were some street lights around so i couldn't really see it that great.

and on yet another day before i die, i'd like to see (the?) aurora borealis. a.k.a: the northern lights. I remember like 3 years ago on halloween night, there was a pretty decent aurora. And i don't live very far north(41°N), I believe it was cause by some giant solar flare or something. There was a bunch of red in the sky. I wasn't too sure if it was really an aurora though, or if i was just seeing things. Anyways, it wasn't really that great. I want to see a really good one, like the ones that you see pictures of.

and on a totally non-related and rather disgusting note, tonight, as i was walking home, i saw the mutilated remnants of that roadkill that i previously spoke of. RIP little fella. :P

now that summer vacation has finally arrived, i have free time coming out the wazoo.

and with that extra time, i am currently creating a game with elite java programming abilities. It going to be awsome. It will have HD graphics supporting 1080p resolution. And it will support 5.1 digital surround sound. And it'll have realistic physics. A total package that will knock your socks off.

Okay well maybe it doesn't do any of those things, but does have stick figures, and animation. 10 frames per second WOOT!. Actually it's my first attempt at a game. and animation too. So far its going pretty smoothly. There weren't any really big bugs or anything. Though, i do have to create each frame for the animation, and that can get a bit tedius.

anyway, here's version 0.75 of my game. Right now it's basically just a stick figure guy that'll walk to where you click. And if you click on one of those boxes (future enemies), he'll smash it with a stick, but it doesn't do any visual damage; it's version 0.75, remember? and eventually, i'll transform those boxes into some sort of enemy. Maybe giant stick figure bugs or something.

today, my mom and i went shopping for a watch. She's been saying that she was going to get me one ever since my birthday (in january), and we finally did it. We went to three different stores before we found 'the one'. At the first store, there was one decent watch that i would've worn, but wasn't exactly what i was looking for. The second store we visited had nothing that appealed to me.

At the third store, Boscov's, i didn't find anything appealing at first. But then, i saw it. Well, not at first. Before I found 'it', i first found the skagen section. I was attracted to this section because of their clean, simplested look. I figured these watches would be expensive, but none of them had any price tag, so i couldn't be sure of just how expensive. After looking closer at this section, i saw 'it', the Skagen 233LTMB.

Well to make a long story short, which nobody would read anyway, it was love at first sight. I asked my mom. After inquiring, it turned out to be $125, which is expensive, but not insanely expensive. So it was within the 'price range'. After some adjustments of the band, i was the proud owner of my shiny new watch.

The watch is really nice if you ask me. Just what i was looking for. Black, slim, and simplistic. It doesn't have any crazy features or anything, it just tells time. which is exactly what watches are supposed to do. It doesn't have a second hand, but that's fine with me. It doesn't have numbers, just dashes where the number would be. And it's also really thin. I measure it being 5mm at it's thickest point. It looks even thinner while it's on, because it get thinner near the edges. It's also made of titanium, which i think is pretty pointless, but i'll sleep better at night knowing that if i ever get my wrist smashed with some heavy object in some kind of terrible accident that my watch casing will be alright. The band is also made of titanium sort of mesh. I love it.

Later, when i got home from the mall, a quick google search showed that we pretty much got ripped off at $125. Amazon.com has it at $73. But don't tell my mom that. ;-)


If for some reason you endured reading my little story about my new watch, you might be able to make it through the story of my old watch. My old watch was in terrible condition. I first go it in 3rd grade (10 years ago) as a christmas gift i believe. For the first week, i would tell my parents what time it was every 5 minutes. It must've been pretty annoying. I stopped wearing for a while, and just started wearing it again when i started working.

Soon after i started wearing it again, the little black 'excess-band-holder-down-thingy' ripped and fell off. I replaced that with some duct tape (which is extremely useful). A few weeks later, the band started ripping. Eventually it got so bad that i just cut the tear to make it smooth, and stapled it back together. That held for a while until i had to do it again, which was about last week. I don't have a camera, so i couldn't take a picture of it, but i do have a scanner. I scanned it and uploaded the image. Here it is lol. I'm so glad to have a new watch. :-)


Wow. my little story about watches turned out to be way longer that i originally thought it'd be. I'm a pretty sad individual; writing such pointless things and such. lol

I've been trying to come up with some new Colors (skins) for this here website lately. But anytime i have an idea that i like, it turns out to be too technical and not possible until CSS3 is commonplace. I could completey restructure the entire website, but i don't know if that'd be worth it.

If on the off chance that anyone would read this and have an idea or something, you can leave me a comment or something... And Beethoven's 9th Symphony rocks. I'm listening to it right now, and that 4th movement sure is something. :-)

you can try out any of those skins if you'd like. I personally like the 'chickenmeisterific' one.

i don't like bugs. not all bugs, just the stereotypical 'creepy crawlers'. spiders, centipedes, millipedes, and whatnot. Especially spiders though. I suppose i have arachnophobia. Though not super bad. I've seen TV shows about people with fears, and they go crazy, constantly paranoid, adjusting their everyday lives. I'm not that bad. I just need sum bug spray whenever i'm working in the yard or something like that.

Not all bugs are bad though. I think ants are awsome. Unless they're like killer ants. In Africa, there's this one type of driver ant they call 'siafu' (might've spelled it wrong). They attack in numbers and can basically take down anything. I think it's really neat how they're nomadic, and search for food in certain directions. and how they'll make a home for like 3-4 weeks then move somewhere else when all that food in that area is gone. I think it's amazing how they can be so clever and so automaton-like at the same time.

In Tazmania, there's this other type of ant they call the 'jack jumper'. They don't attack in numbers, but they have can sting. And one sting can kill you. That would freak me out. Also in Australia there's this one type of jellyfish. It's called... well i don't feel like looking it up or trying to spell it and making a fool out of myself, so i'll just sound it out... ear-uh-con-gee. Well, anyways, it's about the size of your fingernail, and it's like the most posionous jellyfish in the world. I think i've also heard that aussie-land has 9 out the worlds 10 deadliest snakes. I'd like to visit Australia, but all this stuff would probably freak me out.

Here is a photo that i took. Judging by the nature of the image, you could probably deduce that it isn't a real-life photo. I created that image using Gran Turismo 4's photomode. I took it a while ago, for an online photo competition.

I really like this picture. There isn't anything i don't like about it. It's perfect in every way in my mind. The colors. the exposure. the layout. the background. The car is a Fiat 500R i believe; can't remember the year. And the race track is Trial Mountain reverse i think. I haven't played the game in a while. I think i should've won the competition that week. But i guess everyone isn't like me.

i dislike it when people forget to place the caps on the pen/marker that they were using. With no cap, the writing utensil's tip can dry up and make writing with it next time a hassle. And with no caps, they can run amuck everywhere. Writing where they aren't supposed to.

The one time, in like 6th grade, i put a pen in my pants pocket while in school. It didn't have a cap on it and i put it in point down. Due to my evil-capless-pen ignorance, it didn't concern me. Well, i had that pen in my pocket for most of the school day. By the time i got home, there was a big black splotch in my pocket and in the general pocket area on my pants and on my leg. They were khaki colored pants too, so it was not hard to see.

Nowadays, i only purchase clicky pens with the retractable tip.

I went to college orientation today. at Shippensburg University of PA.

We had to wake up at like 6:00 AM because it's like a 2 hour drive to my ship from my home town. we got there like 3 minutes late though, but that was no big deal. First we had to listen to the dean dude (don't know his exact title) talk for like an hour.

Then all the student were separated into like 3 categories. arts & sciences. business. and another thing or two that i cant remember. Then those groups went to different rooms and listened to more people talk. Then those groups were seperated further by their major. Mine was computer science of course. We then when to the math and computer technology building, where we had a little tour of the CS labs. Then we listened to another person speak about what classes the CS peeps would take, and some general info/tips.

Then we got to go eat lunch. I had a chicken pattie thing, but i didn't eat the bread part; just the chicken. I'm not a big fan of sandwitches/bread. I also had some fries. The food was pretty good. But i don't expect it to always be that tasty though.

Then after lunch, we had this thing called 'meet your shipmates', which makes me think of pirates. Shipmates, pirates; ya'know? Arrrrg. That was basically a thing were we would talk to and interact with some other freshmen. First, we all lined up according to our birthdays. Then the first half of people formed a big circle. Then the rest of the students formed another circle around the first circle. The person on the inside circle would be 'partners' with the person they were aligned with on the outside circle. Then we'd have to greet each other and talk about various thing. Then one of the circle would rotate like 5 people and get a new partner. I don't remember the names of any of my 'partners', i was pretty much concentrating on what to say/do. I remember i met this one girl who worked at the same chain of grocery stores that i work at. I can't recall any of my other 'partners' though. I do remember some people though who weren't my 'partner'. Then after the circle/partner thing, we play some games in smaller groups, which was a bit entertaining, though the games/activities weren't all that great if you ask me. I didn't really make any new 'friends', nor 'strong aquaintences' from this 'meet your shipmates' thing. Though i wasn't really expecting to. I'm not very sociable at first.

Then we went off to find out 'what it's really like'. which was basically some more speaking, and some skits that current students did that depicted various senarios which might be encountered in college life. Then we were broken off into smaller groups and were taken to a different room where we could ask current students any questions. I don't really have anything to say about that.

Then we went to get our ID card that we'd need. Then we went to the 'closing', which was basically more speaking by the administration. That was boring. But they did give away a free t-shirt to someone who knew the answer to a trivia question about an alumini mentioned earlier in the day. I knew the answer right away, but didn't bother to raise my hand.

and that was basically my whole trip to ship. (hey i'm a poet and don't know it (i make a rhyme every time(end of stupid rhymes))). It was a good day. I got to be more familiar with the campus and stuff. I know have a 'mental map' of the school in my head. Before, i was dependant on a map.

last night i had the weirderst dream.

I was working in the yard near the garage, and i somehow ended up with spider that bit me and wouldn't let go. It bit me near where my middle finger meets the back of my hand. And it was about the size of a silver dollar, and it was all black. And once it bit me, it wouldn't let go; no matter how much i tried shaking my hand or brushing it off, it wouldn't let go.

So eventually my mom and i decided to go to the hospital to see if they could get it off. so we started walking. By the time we got there, we forgot what we went there for; even though it was still attached to my hand. So we went home. And i somehow ended up with a band-aid over my hand and the spider. And when i removed the band-aid, the spider wasn't there anymore. It vanished somehow underneath the bandage.

Then later in my dream, it might've the same, or different day, i don't know; but anyway, i dreamt that i had totally forgotten that i had work that day, and i ended up being like 2 hours late.

and that was pretty much my dream that i can remember. I sure hope they're not premonitions. ;-)

I must be a little behind with the PSP news. because i just discovered the 2.71 firmware update today.

So i downloaded and installed it. It has some nice new features. One new feature is that the internet browser support macromedia flash. Though i think it's only like flaster version 6. So i can't watch any flash movies like on youtube or google video. So that was somewhat dissapointed. Though it's still great that it supports flash.

It was only 7MB which suprised me. If i had seen a photos of this game, or this game sitting on a store shelf, i wouldn't have any interest in it. It looks silly. Well it is silly. I haven't seen/heard of this game before today BTW. So i start up the demo, enjoying the lack of a disk. When i first seen the title screen, i pretty much laughed out loud. Then i started enjoying the catchy music. So i start the game, just to see what it's like. Well, i'm not really going to go into about what was in the game, just want to say that it was a zillion times better than i expected it to be. It was really good if you ask me. It also has really catch music. I think i might buy this game when it comes out (september).

Just goes to show that you shouldn't 'judge a book by its cover'.

I can't wait until the fourth of july. But i guess i have to. Unless i invent a time machine... but i don't think that'll happen. :-( I mostly just want to see the fireworks on the fourth.

There's some fireworks going on outside my window right now. And it's not sparkler-type fire works. It's the big kind that go up in the air and explode. They're pretty far away though. I measure about a 9 second difference between seeing them and hearing them. Google says that the speed of sound is 340.29 meters per second. Using that, along with some math and conversions, i can approximate that they're about 1.9 miles away. Though i'm not sure where they'd be setting them off 1.9 miles away from here in that direction. Well, it doesn't really matter to me anyway. so i'll just forget about that for now.

Anyways, my city (technically it's not 'mine', but it's the city in which i reside) will be have fireworks sometime closer to the 4th. Not sure when exactly though, but i'll find out eventually. I hope i don't have to work while they're going on. But if i do, i'll be able to get outside to see them, or atleast some of them. Though that's not as great as getting the up-close view, where you can feel the explosions. I'll be getting holiday pay anyways.

I'm pretty sure that the chinese first invented fireworks. (I think they also invented toothbrushes too ;-).) And i know they (well, rockets actually i suppose. idk) were used in the battle of 1812, and were fairly modern then. That's why in the star spangled banner (national athem), written by Francis Scott Key during the battle, it says "...and the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there...". Oh say, does that star spangled banner yet wave over the land of the free, and the home of the brave? I wonder how many people actually know their national athem.

i just tested my Pi skills. About a month or two ago i memorized pi to50 decimal places. Since then i haven't really thought about it or tried to recall all of them. So today i was inspired to see how much of it i remembered.

I got to 37 decimal places before screwing up.

Speaking of pi, want to learn something strangely 'coincidental'. If you write out the alphabet in all caps:

Then get rid of the letters which have vertical symmetry(A,H, etc)

Then starting a the letter J, count how many letters there are in each group separated by spaces.

it's been raining for like a hundred days straight. Well, not really, more like a week straight. But it feels like a hundred. And there's more rain on the way. That makes me sad. :-( There's a bunch of places flooded. The end is near. We're all doomed!

I hope to see the sun one day soon.
